čukʷaa haʔuk cafe
HOURS OF OPERATION
Everyday | 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
All are welcome! Our little cafe has sprouted back to life under the culinary direction of Chef Lisa Ahier of SoBo as the čukʷaa haʔuk
(CHOO-kwa ha-OOK) cafe, meaning “Come, let’s feast!”
In the Nuu-chah-nulth language, the words for feasting (haʔuk) and teaching (ḥaaḥuupa) are related. Often, in Nuu-chah-nulth culture, teachings are shared during a meal. With a focus at the Clayoquote Campus on education and indigenous-led conservation, the new name of the cafe carries with in an invitation to feast on both food and knowledge.
Effective May 1st, cafe patrons who are also annual members of the Clayoquot Campus receive a 15% discount at the cafe, and guests visiting with a Day Pass receive a 10% discount

OUR GUEST CHEF
From Texas to Tofino
Chef Lisa Ahier is an award-winning author, culinary trailblazer, and the creative force behind Tofino’s iconic SoBo.
Born in Texas and a high-honors graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Lisa refined her craft under farm-to-table pioneer Melissa Kelly. That experience cemented her lifelong dedication to organic ingredients and local sourcing — a philosophy that eventually drew her to the wild ecology of the West Coast. In 2003, Lisa brought her signature blend of bold Southwestern flavors and fresh Pacific Northwest ingredients to a purple food truck parked behind a Tofino surf shop. SoBo quickly became a national phenomenon, earning a spot on enRoute magazine’s prestigious Top 10 Best New Restaurants in Canada list, and eventually expanding into a world-renowned destination restaurant.
Lisa’s “grassroots gourmet” approach aligns seamlessly with the ethos at the Clayoquot Campus. She champions the integrity of every ingredient, operating with a zero-waste mindset that creates menus guided entirely by the seasons. For Lisa, great food is built on great relationships; her kitchen doors have always been open to the local fishermen, foragers, and growers she knows by name. Beyond the kitchen, she is a celebrated voice in Canadian cuisine. Her debut book: The Sobo Cookbook, won a Gold Medal at the Taste of Canada Food Awards and placed first at the Gourmet International Awards. Her recent follow up book: Together at SoBo, serves as a heart felt love letter to the Tofino Community, its people and the beauty of our coastline.
We are incredibly honoured to welcome Chef Lisa to the Clayoquot Campus to share her passion with the community.
