Little Costa Rica Cafe

A tribute to history

The Little Costa Rica Cafe (previously Darwin’s Cafe) has been named in honour of the original inspiration for the former Tofino Botanical Gardens, known today as the Clayoquot Campus. Costa Rica’s Organization for Tropical Studies inspired the vision for the 10-acre site, established in 1997 by George Patterson and developed thoughtfully over more than 20 years. During a transition to new ownership in 2021, it was decided that, for a period of time, the cafe would playfully pay homage to this piece of history.

In time, the cafe will be given a Nuu-chah-nulth name that aligns with the mandate of the Clayoquot Campus. The menu will showcase seasonal foods from the region.
